MMMUT CGPA — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the MMMUT grading scale?
MMMUT (Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology, Gorakhpur) uses a 10-point absolute grading system:
A+ = 10 (Outstanding, 90–100) · A = 9 (Excellent, 80–89) · B+ = 8 (Very Good, 70–79) · B = 7 (Good, 60–69) · C = 6 (Above Average, 50–59) · D = 5 (Average / Pass, 40–49) · F = 0 (Fail, < 40).
Non-credit designations: U, W, I, AP, AF, S, Z — all carry 0 grade points. Minimum grade to pass any course is D.
How is MMMUT CGPA converted to percentage?
Per the MMMUT B.Tech Ordinance 3.0 (2024, applicable from session 2024-25 onwards): Percentage = CGPA × 10.
Examples: CGPA 7.7 → 77.0% | CGPA 8.5 → 85.0% | CGPA 9.0 → 90.0%.
This applies to B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA and other MMMUT programmes.
What is required for First Division with Honours at MMMUT?
Per MMMUT regulations, First Division with Honours requires all four conditions:
- CGPA ≥ 7.5
- Passed each subject in single attempt — no carry-overs
- No grace marks used
- No gap in studies
- Successful completion of MOOCS-based course of 20 credits
First Division: 6.5 ≤ CGPA < 7.5 with D or above in every subject of every semester. Second Division: All other qualifying candidates.
What do U, W, I, AP, AF, S, Z grades mean at MMMUT?
MMMUT uses several non-credit designations beyond the standard letter grades:
- U = Unsuccessful (failed)
- W = Withdrawn (course officially dropped)
- I = Incomplete (work pending)
- AP = Audit Pass (non-credit audit course passed)
- AF = Audit Fail (non-credit audit course failed)
- S = Satisfactory (non-credit satisfactory)
- Z = Cancelled
All carry 0 grade points for the standard CGPA computation. Audit-course credits are typically excluded from the CGPA denominator.
What is the minimum CGPA to graduate from MMMUT?
To qualify for the award of degree at MMMUT, a candidate must secure D or above grades (grade point ≥ 5) in all subjects of all semesters.
The Second Division is awarded for the lowest CGPA range, provided this minimum-grade requirement is met across every semester.
Can I calculate my CGPA before completing all semesters?
Yes. You can compute a running CGPA using only the semesters you've completed so far. Just add the SGPA and total credits for each finished semester. The result reflects your cumulative performance up to that point.
