The Math

DSU CGPA Formula

Per the official Dayananda Sagar University academic regulations.

DSU CGPA Formula
\[ \text{CGPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum_{j=1}^{m} (C_j \times S_j)}{\displaystyle\sum_{j=1}^{m} C_j} \]
CjCredits of the j-th semester
SjSGPA earned in the j-th semester
mNumber of completed semesters

Worked Example

A B.Tech student at DSU has completed all 8 semesters with the following performance:

SemesterSGPACreditsSGPA × Credits
1st8.016.58.0 × 16.5 = 132.0
2nd6.9196.9 × 19 = 131.1
3rd8.3238.3 × 23 = 190.9
4th7.9247.9 × 24 = 189.6
5th8.9208.9 × 20 = 178.0
6th6.8216.8 × 21 = 142.8
7th9.6279.6 × 27 = 259.2
8th7.7247.7 × 24 = 184.8
Total174.51,408.4

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{CGPA} = \frac{1408.4}{174.5} \approx \mathbf{8.07} \]

And the percentage equivalent (using the DSU formula below):

\[ \text{Percentage} = (8.07 - 0.75) \times 10 = \mathbf{73.20\%} \]

Got Questions?

DSU CGPA - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the DSU grading scale?

Dayananda Sagar University uses a 10-point letter grading system:

O = 10 (Outstanding) · A+ = 9 (Excellent) · A = 8 (Very Good) · B+ = 7 (Good) · B = 6 (Above Average) · C = 5 (Average) · P = 4 (Pass) · F = 0 (Fail).

Minimum grade to pass a course is P, with at least 40% required overall in each course.

How is DSU CGPA converted to percentage?

DSU's official formula is: Percentage = (CGPA - 0.75) x 10.

Examples: CGPA 8.07 → 73.20%  |  CGPA 9.0 → 82.5%  |  CGPA 7.5 → 67.5%.

This is specified in the DSU academic regulations (UG 10.13.1) and is used on transcripts and for higher-education applications.

What is the minimum CGPA to graduate from DSU?

Per DSU regulations, a student must maintain a minimum CGPA of 4 to be eligible for the award of the degree.

A candidate must also clear every course in which an F grade was obtained by re-registering until a passing grade is earned.

How is SGPA different from CGPA at DSU?

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the grade point average for a single semester, computed from course grade points and credits.

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the weighted average across all completed semesters, using each semester's SGPA weighted by its credits.

What does the F grade mean at DSU?

An F grade denotes a fail and carries a grade point of 0. The course must be repeated until a passing grade is obtained.

Until cleared, the course credits remain in the CGPA denominator, which lowers the CGPA.

Can I calculate my running CGPA mid-programme?

Yes. The CGPA calculator above lets you add only the semesters you've completed so far. The result is your cumulative running CGPA, useful for tracking progress before your final semester.
